Winnetka Blotter: 3 Home Break-ins; DUI Arrest; Cab Altercation

A summary of incidents reported to the police department from April 18-24.

The following items are taken from the Winnetka Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

April 24

Residential Burglary: Police responded to an alarm in the 300 block of Chestnut Street at 3:59 p.m. and found a door to the residence left open. Jewelry, money and electronics were missing. No residents were home during the burglary.

Traffic Arrest: Dayna Lynn Hardin, 42, of Glencoe, was stopped by police at 1:17 a.m. at Gordon Terrace and Gage Street. She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, disobeying a stop sign and improper lane usage. Her court date is June 7.

April 23

Identity Theft: A resident reported unauthorized charges on a credit card that were made earlier this month. The amount of the loss is unknown.

Criminal Damage: A resident in the 900 block of Grove Street told police the driver's side mirror on his BMW, which was parked in his driveway, was damaged the previous night. The cost of the repair is unknown.

Battery: A cab driver and a customer had a physical altercation at Chestnut and Elm streets at 3:23 a.m. No complaints were filed.

Minor in Possession of Alcohol: A 16-year-old teen was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol and responsibility as the owner-occupant for allowing other minors to consumer alcohol. Officers responded to the residence in the 900 block of Pine Tree Lane after a fire alarm went off. The boy's court date is May 11.

April 20

Theft: A woman notified police after her wallet was removed from her purse while she ate at a restaurant. The amount of the loss is put at $340.

April 19

Theft: A locked bicycle was reported stolen from a bike rack at New Trier High School. The white, black and yellow 21-speed Scott road bicycle is valued at $1,200. The theft may have occurred April 18.

Retail Theft: The store manager of a retail shop in the 700 block of Elm Street reported the theft of a skirt and a dress, valued at $5,500. The theft occurred during business hours on April 16.

Identity Theft: A resident reported unauthorized charges on multiple credit card accounts that occurred earlier this year. The amount of the loss is unknown.

Residential Burglary: Laptops were reported missing from a residence in the 800 block of Bell Lane. Police found signs of a forced entry after the daytime burglary.

Residential Burglary: Jewelry, electronics and "women's accessories" were reported missing from a residence in the 700 block of Heather Lane. 

Car Burglarized: A resident notified police that sports equipment and a duffel bag were missing from his car, which was parked in an unlocked garage in the 700 block of Green Bay Road.

Traffic Arrest: Mary Remien, 25, of Glenview, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license in the 700 block of Foxdale Lane at 12:24 a.m. Her court date is May 4.

April 18

Traffic Arrest: A 17-year-old Evanston male was arrested at 1:13 a.m. on charges of driving without a valid driver's license and disobeying a flashing red signal in the 900 block of Green Bay Road. His court date is May 11.
