UPDATE: Glenview Man In Coma At Evanston Hospital After Crash, Police Chief Says

The other driver died Friday night at Evanston Hospital.

The Glenview man who was involved in a fatal collision in Northfield on Friday remains at Evanston Hospital and is in a coma, said Northfield Police Chief William Lustig.

More details about the condition of the 63-year-old man are unknown. The other driver, Silvia Garcia-Seguar, 22, died a few hours after the crash at Evanston Hospital.

The crash occurred around 8 p.m. in the 2200 block of Willow Road, near a curve in the road. Garcia-Seguar was heading eastbound on Willow Road when she apparently drifted out of her lane and the two cars collided, according to Lustig.

Garcia-Seguar's vehicle spun out and landed in a ditch on the side of the road, just east of Bracken Lane. Lustig said she had to be cut out of her vehicle.

"This is the first fatality in Northfield in the 15 years I've been here," Village Manager Stacy Sigman said. Fatal traffic crashes have occurred at the intersection of Willow and Waukegan roads, Sigman said.

Willow Road was closed off between Wagner Road and Old Willow Road late into Friday night. The cause of the accident, speed of the cars and whether anything else contributed to the crash is under investigation.

Lustig and Sigman led a previously scheduled tour of the road for the Willow Road Community Advisory Group on Monday morning. Near the site of the accident, Lustig talked about the accident and answered questions from the group.

One member of the Willow Road Community Advisory Group asked whether alcohol was involved in the crash. "It hasn't been confirmed," Lustig said.

The Community Advisory Group comprises community members from Winnetka, Northfield and Glenview who are weighing in on plans to expand a two-lane stretch of the road where traffic delays are common. The stretch also passes by schools and parks, and pedestrians of all ages are common. Monday's tour was meant to show the group what Willow Road looks like during peak traffic hours.

Northfield Police are working with the Major Crash Assistance Team in the investigation, a force that serves nearby municipalities. Lustig praised their work and response to the crash.

"We have one of the most elite traffic investigation teams in the state," Lustig said. "It's something every person in the municipalities should be proud of."
