UPDATE: ComEd Crews Still Working In Glencoe, Northfield

While most customers in the two villages now have power, ComEd expects to restore power to the remaining customers soon.

About 20 percent of Glencoe and 10 percent of Northfield is still without power following Tuesday's storm, but ComEd is working to restore power to all customers Friday.

On Thursday afternoon, ComEd told Northfield village officials that 12 crews were working to restore power in the village, according to an update from the village.

Twenty percent of Glencoe customers (about 678) still did not have power as of 8 a.m. Friday, according to the village. ComEd estimated 95 percent of power would be restored on Friday, according to the village.

The Glencoe Library was still closed Thursday due to a lack of electricity from Tuesday night's storm, but the Village Hall as well as the Public Safety and Public Works Departments were running at full power thanks to gasoline generators.

As of Thursday afternoon, power had been restored on the north side of Park Avenue, allowing Starbucks' doors to open. But most of the village south of Park was still in the dark. According to ComEd, power was expected to be restored in the evening.

Glencoe Public Safety Deputy Chief Al Kebby said 1,700 Glencoe households had no electricity at noon Thursday.

Kebby said the village had 40 trees blow over in Tuesday's storms and 25 reports of downed wires. A tree went down on Green Bay Road at Carol Avenue, closing the major thoroughfare for 36 hours until Thursday morning.

In addition to Green Bay, Kebby said trees blocked the street on the 500 block of Drexel Avenue, the 600 block of Greenleaf Avenue and the 500 block of Longwood Avenue.
