Three Glencoe Vehicles Burglarized in One Day

Three motor vehicle burglaries were reported to the Glencoe Public Safety Department on Wednesday.

Three vehicles were reported burglarized in Glencoe on Wednesday, according to the Glencoe Public Safety Department.

The vehicles, according to police reports, were located on the 700 block of Valley Road (in which a garage door opener was reported stolen), the 900 block of Vernon Ave. (where two CDs and a Garmin GPS were reported stolen) and the 1100 block of Oak Ridge (where a garage door opener and a key fob were reported stolen). All three burglaries occurred sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The vehicles were left unlocked in all three locations.

“In the past, [we’ve found that] people that commit burglary to a motor vehicle needed quick cash to support a drug addiction or their rent was due, or other economic issues,” Glencoe Deputy Chief Alan Kebby said.

Kebby said that oftentimes in a case like this, it’s usually multiple people in a car who will park and then walk around a two-block area, checking each driveway to see if the car is unlocked. Kebby noted that was probably the case in the string of Glencoe burglaries, especially with the vehicles on Vernon Ave. and Oak Ridge, since the locations are so close to each other.

“Leave your exterior lights on, lock up your cars and don’t leave valuables in your cars,” Kebby advised, to help prevent future burglaries to motor vehicles.

Fingerprints and DNA were taken from the scenes of the burglaries. At the time of publication, the results had not yet been returned.
