Taxi Troubles Smell Like Alcohol

In this week's Northfield police blotter, a dispute over taxi fare lands a juvenile in custody over unlawful alcohol possession.

The following reports were provided by the Northfield Police Department. 

Taxi Disturbance

On Jan. 27, someone near Sunset Ridge Rd. and Shadowwood Ln. reported a disturbance around 3:40 a.m., police say. Responding officers found a taxi driver in a dispute with a young woman over cab fare, according to police.

The dispute was settled but the young woman had the smell of alcohol on her breath and further investigation found the juvenile in possession of alcohol, police say. The juvenile was processed and released to parents, according to police. 

Hit and Run

On Jan. 22, someone reported a hit and run near the Waukegan Rd. and Willow Rd. intersection, police say. The victim told officers he was hit by an elderly woman in a maroon sedan, according to police.

Identity Theft

On Jan. 26, someone on the 1800 block of Stockton Dr. reported an unknown person tried to use his identity to file tax returns, police say. Between April 2012 and November 2012, the Northfield resident received letters from the IRS and Dept. of Treasury regarding tax refund inquiries, according to police. No money was lost but the resident was advised to contact the Dept. of Social Security, police say. 

Suspicious Noise

On Jan. 28, a resident on the 100 block of Eddy Ln. called police because someone rang her doorbell and it sounded like someone was trying to get in the front door, police say. Responding officers checked the area but found no one, police say. 

Stray Dog

On Jan. 28, someone near Hibbard Rd. and Longmeadow Rd. reported a stray dog in the area, but responding officers couldn't find the animal, police say. 

Brush Fire

On Jan. 27, the Cook County Forest Preserve conducted a controlled fire in Northfield, police say.
