Sketch Of Home Invasion Suspect Released

Winnetka police say the sketch resembles a man who entered a home and attacked a domestic worker.

A composite sketch of a man who allegedly entered a Winnetka home and attacked a woman was released by Winnetka police Thursday night.

The woman's injuries were not life-threatening and she was released from a hospital after treatment. She is a domestic worker in the home, which is near the intersection of Scott Avenue and Sheridan Road.

At 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of an ongoing home invasion at the address. The intruder was gone by the time police arrived. The woman was attacked by the intruder and defended herself, which caused the man to flee the house on foot, said Patrick Kreis, Winnetka's interim chief of police.

Kreis would not comment on the investigation or any possible suspects Thursday morning.

"We conducted a thorough search of the area," Kreis said. A telephone notification system was also employed early Wednesday afternoon to alert residents in the area of the attack, Kreis said.

The suspect is described as white male, 6 feet tall and 25-35 years old. New information from Winnetka police indicates the man spoke with an accent. He has a slim build and dark complexion, and was last seen wearing a light gray long-sleeved shirt with a hood, according to the release.

"This is a very serious matter that we are going to use all available resources to solve," Kreis said.
