Police Investigating 4 Winnetka Burglaries

Winnetka and Northfield sent out a crime prevention alert to residents Wednesday.

Winnetka police are investigating four residential burglaries that occurred in the last week, according to a crime prevention alert.

  • April 24: Police responded to an alarm in the 300 block of Chestnut Street at 3:59 p.m. and found a door to the residence left open. Jewelry, money and electronics were missing. No residents were home during the burglary.
  • April 19: Laptops were reported missing from a residence in the 800 block of Bell Lane and there were signs of forced entry. The burglary occurred during daytime hours.
  • April 19: Jewelry, electronics and "women's accessories" were reported missing from a residence in the 700 block of Heather Lane sometime during the day.

A fifth incident occurred Thursday morning, but no valuables were removed from the house because the resident was home at the time and saw the person run out the door. The resident was not injured.

Northfield police also issued an alert Wednesday about a burglary Tuesday morning in the 200 block of Lagoon. According to the alert, tools and an air compressor were reported missing.

The Winnetka Police Department is currently investigating four Residential Burglaries. All of these burglaries occurred within the past seven days when the home owners were either away or out for the day. Three of the burglaries occurred during daytime hours. Jewelry and electronics have been targeted by the burglar(s).

The Winnetka Police encourage all residents to be watchful for any suspicious activity. If you see a person or vehicle at your neighbor's house you are unfamiliar with, do not hesitate to call the Winnetka Police. If possible, write down descriptions of the suspicious vehicle to include a license plate number. Always lock windows and doors when you are not home. If your home is equipped with an alarm system, USE IT.

Do not delay in reporting suspicious activity. Remember, if something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't. Call 911 immediately.
