Parts of Winnetka Without Power After Storm

Winnetka's village council meeting was moved to the basement of the police station for about 15 minutes.

Parts of Winnetka are without power and crews have been dispatched to clear fallen branches and trees throughout the village after Tuesday's powerful storm.

Two power circuits are out, according to the village's website.

The trustees, staff and those in the audience paused the meeting for the tornado warning issued for northern Cook County. After about 15 minutes, the meeting was adjourned and a presentation on a stormwater study was left unfinished.

Winnetka-Glencoe Patch received reports of fallen trees, including one on Winnetka Avenue just west of Sheridan Road.

An ash tree fell across Winnetka Avenue in Tuesday night's storm just west of Sheridan Road, blocking traffic. Mary Ford of Winnetka stood outside her house by the tree after the storm. She said she took cover in the basement during the storm.

"I had five girls at the house and they all went, 'aaagh!'" Ford said.

A reader told Winnetka-Glencoe Patch that a power line near Foxdale and Eldorado was sparking and the area is without power.

Call 847-501-2531 to report power outages and fallen trees at your home. The village is asking residents to call 911 only in emergencies.

The tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warnings for Cook County have now expired.

Several Metra trains on the Union Pacific North line were delayed more than an hour. Metra UP-N train #357 scheduled to depart Chicago at 10:35 p.m. was canceled.

The Chicago Tribune reports 300 canceled flights at O'Hare and 30 canceled flights at Midway.
