Northfield Police: Juveniles Charged After New Trier Theft

Also featured in this week's blotter: police respond to the sound of shots fired near Hibbard Road and Winfield Drive.

The following reports were provided by the Northfield Police Department. Arrest and charges are accusations and do not indicate guilt. 

Theft at New Trier

On Jan. 8, police charged three juveniles with Theft Under $500 for taking a girl's wallet from New Trier, according to police. The Coach wallet contained about $120 and gift cards, police say. The juveniles were sent to peer jury, according to police.

Deer vs. Car

On Jan. 13, a Winnetka resident driving westbound on Willow Rd. near the Erickson Woods reported hitting a deer, according to police. After searching the area, responding officers did not find a deer, and the vehicle showed minimal damage, police say.

Stuck Opossum 

On Jan. 8, someone on the 0-100 block of Meadowview Dr. reported an opossum stuck in her window well, according to police. The responding officer was unable to access the well, so the homeowner placed a branch in the area in hopes the animal would free itself, police say.

According to police, animals stuck in wells, garbage cans or other enclosed places can sometimes free themselves if a branch or board is placed nearby. 

Vehicular Burglary

On Jan. 12, someone on the 1600 block of Mt. Pleasant St. reported a milk crate with three pairs of Bauer hockey skates worth about $680 were removed from his truck, according to police. 

Loud Noises

On Jan. 12, someone on the 0-100 block of Winfield Dr. reported the sound of possible shots fired near Hibbard Rd. and Winfield Dr., according to police. Responding officers found no one in the area, and another nearby resident reported seeing fireworks and youths running from the the area, police say. 

Abandoned Bike

On Jan. 14, someone came into the police station to report an abandoned bike found behind his garage, police say. The blue, boy's Schwinn was placed into a police property cage, police say.
