Northfield Police Blotter: Theft, Drugs and Drunk Driving

The following arrest information was supplied by the Northfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 7

Service to fire department: Police responded to reports of a Dumpster fire just after 7:30 a.m. outside Raymond and Associates (222 Northfield Rd.). The officer said the flames reached as high as the building and melted the paint on the Dumpster as well as the top lids. The fire department didn't consider the blaze to have a suspicious origin, and they contacted waste management to provide a new Dumpster.

Theft: Sometime between the end of December and Feb. 9, two watches were stolen from a residence in the 2000 block of Arbor Lane. They were valued at $500 each. The case is still under investigation, so no further details were available.

Possession: A 13-year-old Northfield boy was caught with cannabis and homemade drug paraphernalia at Sunset Ridge School (525 Sunset Ridge Rd.) about 2 p.m. His parents were contacted, and he will be processed through a peer jury.

Feb. 10

Confiscated handicap placard: An officer observed expired plates on a car in the parking lot at Dominick's (1822 Willow Rd.) about 1:25 p.m. When he confronted the driver, a 64-year-old woman from Glenview, he also discovered she was driving with a handicap placard that had been issued to a male. She explained that it belonged to her husband. The officer confiscated the placard and issued her a $250 citation, which she can either pay or appeal in court.

No driver's license: About 4:40 a.m. police stopped a man who was driving with only one headlight. They discovered that he had never been issued a driver's license. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond and given a court date of March 2.

Feb. 11

Suspended driver's license: Police stopped a 21-year-old Glenview woman for going the wrong way in the one-way alley behind Starbucks (1801 Willow Rd.). They cited her for disobeying a traffic control device and driving on a suspended license. She was released on a $1,500 i-bond and given a March 26 court date.

Feb. 12

DUI: An officer traveling southbound on Winnetka Road about 12:15 a.m. observed a car with one headlight traveling at a high rate of speed. It took a quarter mile for the driver to pull over. When the officer approached the car, he smelled the odor of alcohol. The driver, a 49-year-old man from Glenview, refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and operating a vehicle with only one headlight. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond and given a March 2 court date.

Suspended driver's license: Police caught a 30-year-old Glenview man driving with a revoked license. They initially stopped him because he turned right without stopping at a red light. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond and given a court date of March 26.

Feb. 13

Stolen bike: A resident of the 1900 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported that his son's brown and copper Fuji 10-speed bicycle was missing. The last place they saw it was in their garage on Feb. 8. It is valued between $400 and $500.

Confiscated handicap placard: Just before 2 p.m. an officer observed a 42-year-old Northbrook woman pull into a handicap space in the 300 block of Happ Road. When she exited the car, she did not appear to be disabled. It turned out that she was using a temporary placard that had been issued to her husband. The officer seized the item and issued her a $250 citation.
