Northfield Police Blotter: Theft, Fire, Vandalism and In-State Warrant

The following arrest information was supplied by the Northfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

April 5

Found item: A man found a wallet near Dominick's and dropped it off at the . Officers contacted the owner, a 20-year-old Northfield man, and returned it to him, along with a local ordinance citation for having an false Kentucky driver's license (making him a year older than he is) as well as an Illinois license belonging to another man. He said the other license belonged to his uncle, but police confiscated both and mailed them back to their respective states. His court date is May 23.

April 13

Theft: Sometime between April 9 and April 13, someone tore open a greeting card that was in a mailbox in the 300 block of Wagner Road and removed a $100 gift card from the recipient's sister. The sender had the activation receipt and attempted to cancel the card.

April 15

Service to the fire department: Between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., a resident caught a whiff of a burning smell near the corner of Wagner and Willow roads. Police officers and firefighters responded and discovered smoke coming out of an attic in the 300 block of Wagner Road. No one was inside, and the fire appeared to be electrical. Arson was not suspected, and the house was saved.

Theft: During a sports game, a 52-year-old Lake Forest woman left her purse out of sight on the south playing fields at New Trier High School (7 S. Happ Rd.). When she looked for it afterward, it was missing. She reported that there had been $100 inside.

Vandalism: Police found a stop sign at the corner of Happ and Harding roads that had been spray painted. The village was able to clean off the paint, there was no damage.

April 16

In-state warrant: Back on Dec. 31, there was a suspicious incident at Fields BMW (700 W. Frontage Rd.) in which an alarm went off in the lot, and police found a tire on the ground next to one of the cars. There was also a car on the lot that did not belong there. Later, officers found a 22-year-old man wandering in the 400 block of Central Avenue. He turned out to be the driver of the strange car, and they determined that he had been trying to steal the tire, but he had been scared by off by the car alarm. They charged him and gave him a court date of Jan. 20, which he failed to attend. After several more opportunities to make other court dates, Cook County issued a warrant for his arrest. On April 2, DuPage County police officers stopped him in Naperville for a traffic violation. He was transferred to Northfield's custody on April 16, given a new court date of May 15 and later released into the custody of Homeland Security for immigration issues.
