Northfield Police Blotter: Bellicose Driver; Curfew Violation

A summary of events reported from July 26 through Aug. 1.

The Northfield Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement. 

July 26

No driver's license: Police stopped a man at 9:08 a.m. in the 100 block of Happ Road for a weight inspection of his vehicle. He was found to be driving without a valid license and was cited for the operating an unsafe vehicle. He paid a $120 bond for his overweight vehicle violation and posted a $1,500 bond. His court date is Sept. 1.

July 27

Criminal damage: In the overnight hours, an informational sign at an overlook at Willow Park, 401 Wagner Rd., was found knocked off its base. Damage was estimated at $500.

July 28

Underage drinking: Police found a 19-year-old Palatine man flagging down vehicles at 3:53 a.m. in the 500 block of Sunset Ridge Road. During a test, his breath registered above the legal limit for alcohol and he was subsequently charged with illegal consumption of alcohol. His court date is Sept. 2.

July 29

Unpaid gasoline: A woman filled her car with gasoline at the Breaking Point Shell station on Willow Road without paying. However, the card scanner was broken, so officials said it was possible she might not have known of the problem. The gasoline station owner is only seeking reimbursement.

Battery incident: A man reported that the operator of white truck was driving aggressively along Winnekta Road and had forced other motorists off the road. He approached to the driver to ask what was the problem. The truck operator got out of the vehicle, pushed the man in the chest and raised a flashlight as if to hit him. However, no charges were filed.

July 30

Revoked driver's license: Police stopped a 32-year-old Chicago man for a traffic violation and subsequently charged him with several infractions.

Police discovered that his plates and safety sticker had expired. Because he was hauling landscape materials, the vehicle was 4,600 pounds above the weight for his registration. They also found that he was driving on an revoked license and had an outstanding warrant from McHenry County for contempt of court.

The driver posted $1,000 bond for the warrant, paid a $120 fine for his registration violation and posted a $2,000 bond. His court date is Aug. 22.

Vandalism: A woman reported that her house on Meadow View Avenue was egged overnight. She was able to wash off most of the mess.

July 31

Curfew violation: Four boys, ages 13-15, were taken to the Northfield Police Station after a 14-year-old driver from Wilmette ran two stop signs along Winnetka Road. Their parents came from Glenview, Northbrook and Wilmette to pick up their sons, who were issued curfew violation citations.

No driver's license: Police stopped a 32-year-old Chicago man at 3:20 p.m. on Willow Road after a check revealed his registration had expired. He was charged with driving with a suspended registration and driving without a valid license. He posted a $3,000 bond and was given a court date of Aug. 22.

Aug. 1

Criminal damage: In the overnight hours, a vehicle parked in a driveway on Lockwood Avenue was gouged. There was no damage estimate.

Identity theft: A resident in the 2300 block of Pebble Fork Lane had her wallet stolen in Chicago in April. Unauthorized transactions showed up on her account in June, but she was unable to make a report to police because she was traveling. The two purchases were made in Lombard and Janesville, WI.
