Auto theft: A Land Rover Range Rover was stolen from the lot at Fields Volvo (770 W. Frontage Rd.) sometime between March 26 and March 29, police said. The supercharged SUV was valued at $49,995. The case is under investigation.

Battery: According to police reports, an 18-year-old Glenview man was driving in the 2300 block of Winnetka Road around 4:15 p.m. when a car began honking at him before passing him at a high rate of speed. When the driver of the other vehicle, a 61-year-old Vernon Hills woman, got in front of him, she slammed on the brakes. They both got out of their cars, and as the man asked if there was a problem, the woman slapped him. Police brought both parties into the station, and although the woman never explained herself, the man said he didn't want to press charges. She apologized, and everyone dispersed.

April 2

Accident: There was a five-car accident when a 21-year-old Wilmette woman rear-ended a 47-year-old man from Corral Springs, Fla., at the intersection of Willow Road and Bracken Lane, police said. That pushed the victim into another car (driven by a 23-year-old Chicago woman) before making him sideswipe a fourth car (driven by a 27-year-old Chicago woman). Finally, he rear-ended a fifth car, which was driven by another 27-year-old Chicago woman. The man was transported to the hospital but later released. The Wilmette woman was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Her court date is May 16.
