Northfield Blotter: Underage Drinking Citations at New Trier Graduation Party

A summary of events from May 31 to June 7.

The Northfield Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

The Northfield Police Department fielded 116 calls during the week.

Underage drinking: An 18-year-old Winnetka man was cited for underage drinking after police smelled alcohol on his breath at 1:10 a.m. during the graduation party at New Trier High School.

Driving under the influence: Filiberto Zepeda, 56, of Chicago, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. at Avenue D and Shermer Avenue in Glenview. He was taken into custody after police found his blood alcohol content was above .08. A resident had called police after observing Zepeda's burgundy van driving erratically. He was released on a $1,000 bond and given a court date of June 28.

 June 5

Illegal liquor possession: An 18-year-old Winnetka man was cited for illegal possession of alcohol after police confiscated the item from him. The beverage was seized at 10:35 p.m. after he arrived to the graduation party at New Trier High School, 7 Happ Rd.

Underage drinking: An 18-year-old Northfield man was cited for underage drinking after police smelled alcohol on his breath at 10:44 p.m. The incident occurred after he arrived to the graduation party at New Trier High School, 7 Happ Rd.

 

June 3

Reckless driving: Octavian N. Curtean, 23, of Prospect Heights, was arrested at 1:36 a.m. in the 1600 block of Willow Road and charged with speeding. He was clocked going 103 mph in the 55 mph zone on Winnetka Road. He posted a $2,000 bond and was given a July 20 court date.

Reckless driving: Alejandro Urue-Mendoza, 20, of Chicago, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. at I-94 and Winnetka Road and charged with speeding. He was driving 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. He posted a $1,500 bond and was given a July 20 court date.

Underage drinking: Alexandra R. Swanson, 19, and Blair F. Gartley, 20, both of Waukegan, were stopped when they failed to use their turn signal at Chapel Hill Court and Willow Road. Police cited them for underage consumption of alcohol. Their court date is July 7.

Reckless driving: Joseph B. Brady, 43, of Chicago, was charged with speeding at 5:15 a.m. after police stopped his vehicle at I-94 and Willow Road. He was driving 88 mph in a 55 mph zone. He posted a $1,600 bond and was given a July 20 court date.

Domestic battery: Police arrested a woman after her juvenile son called to report that she had bitten him on the arm. He did not need medical attention. The woman's initial hearing was on June 9.

 

June 1

No driver's license: Aldo Valencia, 20, of Des Plaines, was stopped at 1:10 a.m. after police saw his vehicle drift on two occasions while traveling south on Interstate 94 near Old Orchard Road. Valencia was cited for driving without a valid license, failure to use his turn signals and improper lane usage. He posted a $1,500 bond.

Theft under $500: A resident reported about 8:54 a.m. that an unsecured bicycle was taken from a garage in the 8000 block of Arbor Lane. It was a 10-year-old black bike without a serial number.
