Northfield Blotter: Man Busted for Drugs and Ammunition, BMW Stolen From Dealership

A recap of incidents reported to police in Northfield from Feb. 8-15.

The following items are taken from Northfield Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Feb. 12

Possession of drugs and paraphernalia: A 28-year-old Buffalo Grove man was arrested during a traffic stop at 9:36 a.m. at the intersection of Willow and Shermer roads. After police searched his gold BMW, they found less than 15 grams of heroin, pipes, syringes and needles as well as prescription drugs for which he had no prescription. A 22-caliber bullet was also discovered in the car, according to the police report. A pat-down uncovered methadone pills in a jacket pocket, for which the driver did have a prescription. He was charged with various felony counts for unlawful possession of controlled substances, including heroin and the generic form of  Vicodin. He was charged with various misdemeanor counts for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and for possession of ammunition without a firearm owner’s identification card. In addition, the motorist was charged with violating suspensions of his license plate and his driver's license and driving without proof of insurance. He stayed in jail until Monday, when he was released on a $10,000 bond. His court hearing is Feb. 25.

Theft motor vehicle parts: A catalytic converter valued at $200 was reported stolen from a Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge truck at 11:07 a.m. The theft is under investigation.

Hit and run: A driver reported that her car had been struck by another car while she was parked in front of the Happ Inn Bar & Grill around 2:30 p.m.

Auto theft: Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge reported that a white BMW X5 SUV valued at $59,825 had been stolen around 7 p.m. According the report, a porter saw someone drive off in the demo vehicle but thought it was being taken for a test drive. The theft is under investigation.

Feb. 10

Hit and run: An Evanston driver reported being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Willow Road and Linder Avenue at 8:29 a.m. The collision spun his car into the eastbound lane of Willow, where it was hit by a Pace bus carrying five passengers. The witnesses on the bus corroborated the Evanston man's story to police, but no one could give a description of the vehicle in the initial crash. According the police report, the vehicles suffered damages.
