Driving under the influence

On July 20, Northfield police observed a grey Volkswagen parked almost sideways up against a parked car in a driveway a few houses down from where the car was registered in the 1600 block of Harding Road. It was just after 2 a.m., and there were tire tracks leading through the lawn to the car. The driver, a 57-year-old Northfield man had been drinking but blew under the legal limit of .008. He did admit to having taken a new prescription medicine. He was transported to a hospital for a blood and urine test and was kept for observation. Police cited him with improper lane usage and driving under the influence of drugs. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond, and issued a Sept. 13 court date.

Harassment by electronic means

A Northfield resident of the 200 block of Eaton Street reported receiving calls and text messages from another party because of a car accident the two had been involved in some weeks ago. Police advised the aggressor on July 17 that he needed to work through the insurance companies, or a disorderly conduct charge could be filed.

Identity theft

A Northfield resident of the 100 block of Riverside Drive reported July 23 that he had received a letter from the IRS saying his social security number had been used on another person's tax return. They furnished him with an identity theft affidavit and required him to file a police report, though the case was transferred back to the IRS.

No driver's license

Police stopped a 24-year-old Chicago man driving a green Chevrolet with expired registration on July 21 around 4:15 a.m. They found that he'd never been issued a driver's license. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond. His court date is Aug. 22.
