HP Boy Rescued After Spending Night in Kayak on Lake Michigan

The 9 year old was with another 9 year old and that boy’s mother in Door County, WI.

A 9-year-old boy from Highland Park as well as another 9 year old from Texas and that boy’s mother were rescued from Lake Michigan Friday morning after spending more than 12 hours in kayaks off the coast of Door County, WI, according to an Associated Press article.

Allison Alter, 43, and her son Zach Suri, 9, of Austin, TX; and Thomas Alter, 9, of Highland Park were rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and treated for mild hypothermia, the article says. They were about 14 miles from where they launched their kayaks Thursday afternoon. They were in their rental kayaks, which were tethered together.

The three, who are related, have been released from the hospital.

Just so irresponsible- Idiotic as well. Yes, Lake Michigan can be a death trap and conditions can change in the blink of an eye...but this was entirely avoidable with a sinew of a tiny modicum of common sense.
