A Glencoe Public Safety officer was injured Tuesday when his patrol vehicle was involved in a head-on collision.
Officer Ryan Windham, 34, was the officer involved in the collision, according to the Glencoe News.
Windham was driving northbound in the 800 block of Vernon Ave, while another vehicle was driving southbound, police said. The driver of the southbound vehicle told police that he dropped some papers onto the floor of the passenger side. When he reached over to retrieve them, he accidentally drove into the path of the officer.
Both Windham and the driver of the other vehicle were treated by paramedics at the scene, police said. Windham was then transported to the Highland Park Hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to the head and airbag-deployment-related injuries.
The Public Safety department said it was still unclear if the patrol car that Windham was driving, which was new, would be able to be repaired.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was cited for failure to wear a seatbelt and driving in the wrong lane of traffic.
