Glencoe Blotter: Woman Alleges Locksmith Scam; Fake ID Incidents

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from April 7-13.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

April 13

Deceptive Practices: A 93-year-old woman in the 600 block of Orchard Lane reported at 10:07 a.m. that she had a locksmith come to her house on April 12 to change two locks. She told police of her suspicion that she had been scammed.

She said the locksmith claimed to have a shop in the 300 block of Park Avenue, but there is no such office. The locksmith changed the two locks, but asked for an additional $155 on top of the estimate because of the time involved.

The job took two hours for work that police said should have taken 30 minutes. When the officer called the purported locksmith and asked where the business was located, the man who answered the phone hung up.

April 11

Theft: A Chicago woman reported at 9:31 p.m. that her wallet was lost or stolen in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue. The incident occurred before she left for work after 11 p.m. April 10. She told police that unauthorized transactions were made in Glencoe to her bank account. She also lost $20 cash.

Trespassing: A 29-year-old Arlington Heights man and a 24-year-old Buffalo Grove woman were caught 12:06 a.m. at the Glencoe Beach after closing hours. They were warned about potential fines and sent on their way.

Suspicious Incident: Three teenagers were talking about dealing the pain-killing medication Vicodin at the basketball court in the 200 block of Linden Avenue at 4:45 p.m.

April 10

Fake Identification: A 17-year-old Wilmette boy tried to buy an alcohol beverage at the 7-Eleven store in the 100 block of Green Bay Road at 9:05 p.m.Police found a fake South Carolina driver's license in the teen's possession. He was cited with misrepresentation of age and possessing a false identification.

Juvenile Nuisance: Complaints were filed of teenagers repeatedly ringing doorbells at 10:25 p.m. at two houses: one in the 100 block and the other in 200 block of Scott Avenue.

April 9

Suspicious Person: A disoriented white woman wearing black clothing was knocking on windows in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue at 10:44 a.m.

April 8

Fake Identification: A girl tried to use a fake Wisconsin identification to buy tobacco at the 7-Eleven store in the 100 block of Green Bay Road at 10:18 p.m. Police were told she fled into Winnetka on Green Bay Road in a silver four-door car that was later found to be registered to a man in Glenview.
