Glencoe Blotter: Vandals Damage 3 Cars; $170 Taken in Cleaners Burglary

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from April 21-28.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

April 28

Charles V. Durovic, 27, of San Diego, CA, was driving a white 2010 Honda Accent eastbound from the Edens Expressway along Dundee Road when a caller complained about his driving at 12:59 a.m. Police said he turned south on Green Bay Road at a high rate of speed and crossed the center line. Police stopped Durovic at Hawthorn Avenue. He was arrested at 1:24 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. Police also cited him for improper lane use. His court date is June 7.

April 26

Credit Card Fraud — A Glencoe man's credit card was lost at Grand Foods on April 25. He reported at 4:11 p.m. that more than $4,000 in bogus purchases were charged to his account.

Coin Purse Found — A woman's coin purse was found along with keys in the 300 block of Park Avenue at 10:06 a.m.

April 25

Burglary — Lake Shore Cleaners was found burglarized at 1:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Green Bay Road. Entry was made through the back door by breaking the lock between April 23 and 25 and $170 was stolen from the cash register, according to the report.

April 24

Underage Consumption — Police stopped two young men at 1:21 a.m. along the sidewalk near Green Bay Road and Park Avenue to question them about a recent vandalism. Police noticed one of the pedestrians had a strong odor of alcohol on breath. William B. Leslie Jr., 18, of Canon City, CO, was cited for underage consumption of alcohol. He was turned over to his father who lives in Winnetka.

Bike Found — A little girl's pink bicycle with a white basket was found abandoned at 11:09 a.m. at the corner of Green Bay Road and Linden Avenue and handed over to police for safekeeping.

April 23

Vandalism — A blue 1995 Toyota Tercel parked at the corner of Jackson and Linden avenues had both its side mirrors knocked off at 12:33 a.m. April 23.

A window of a silver 2005 Lincoln Aviator was smashed with a landscape rock at 7:25 a.m. in the 1200 block of Longmeadow Lane. The owner said later that he recalled hearing the car door slam at 11:22 a.m. April 22. A security camera caught two males, ages 16-21, in the act.

The side mirror was ripped off the driver's side of a black 2007 BMW while it was parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Washington Avenue between 8 p.m. on April 22 and 9 a.m. on April 23.

April 22

Underage Drinking — A 16-year-old Winnetka boy appeared intoxicated inside the Glencoe train depot at 6:51 p.m. in the 700 block of Old Green Bay Road.

Encounter with Wildlife — A woman reported that ducks have been swimming in the puddles in front of her house in the 400 block of Madison Avenue at 4:57 p.m. She also wanted it noted to police that a red fox ran through her yard.

April 21

Theft — A Glencoe woman reported at 7:10 p.m. that her credit cards were used after her wallet was stolen at Panera Bread in Hubbard Woods on April 20. She reported more than $300 had been charged to  the cards.

Credit Card Fraud — A Glencoe couple reported at 6:32 p.m. the fraudulent use of their credit card at a Wal-Mart store in Texas.

Property Damage — A car ran into a fence on the 0-100 block of Park Avenue before taking off at 5:37 p.m.

Neighbor Dispute — Children were playing ball in the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue and the balls kept landing in the neighbor's property. So the neighbor kept the balls from the children. Police were called at 12:28 to sort out the dispute.
