Glencoe Blotter: Sparks From Tire Lead to DUI Arrest, Sailboats Damaged, Traffic Arrests

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from Nov. 4-11.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Nov. 4

Suspicious Person: A caller reported a man walking on the street at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Park Avenue at 9:32 p.m. who looked either lost or intoxicated. Officers responded to the man, who said he was walking home from the train station, that it was cold and he had asked a passerby for a ride home. The man also said Glencoe Police always give him a ride home. The man was sent on his way.

Traffic Arrest: A 19-year-old Waukegan man was arrested and cited for driving with a suspended drivers license and having no rear registration plate light at 10:57 p.m. at the intersection of Gordon Terrace and Oakley Avenue.

Traffic Arrest: A 19-year-old North Chicago man was arrested at 11:05 p.m. at Scott Avenue and Green Bay Road on charges of driving without a rear registration light and driving with a suspended license.

Nov. 5

Theft: Glencoe Public Safety is working with investigators with North Shore Community Bank regarding an undisclosed amount of missing money based on an audit.

Criminal Damage: Officers received a report from a Glencoe Park District employee that two volleyball nets had been damaged and five Hobiecat sailboats had been overturned. The property is owned by the park district and was at Glencoe Beach. The total damage is estimated at $600.

Nov. 6

Suspicious Person: Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at 999 Green Bay Road at 9:05 p.m. One glass pipe was destroyed at the scene but no other contraband was found. Three male teens received a verbal warning, and were advised of park hours.

Nov. 7

DUI Arrest: A 49-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 3:09 a.m. in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road. An officer traveling southbound on Sheridan noticed sparks emitting from the car's rear passenger tire, which was flat. The driver was charged with unsafe tires, illegal transportation of alcohol, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and driving under influence of alcohol. The man was released on a $1000 bond and his court date is Dec. 17.

Criminal Damage: A resident reported a section of fence on their property was damaged in the 800 block of Bluff Street. The cost of the damage is estimated at $200.

Nov. 8

A 20-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested at 9:35 p.m. in the 200 block of Sheridan Road on charges of driving without headlights, driving without insurance and driving without a valid drivers license. She posted a $2000 bond and has a court date on Dec. 27.

Nov. 9

Traffic Arrest: A 43-year-old Winnetka woman was arrested at 9:20 p.m. at Green Bay Road and Scott Ave on charges of driving with a revoked license. The woman posted a $1500 bond and has a court date on Nov. 30.

Nov. 10

Suspicious Person: Officers responded to a caller who said a large group of juveniles were setting off fireworks at Green Bay Road and Woodlawn. The teens were identified and released.
