Glencoe Blotter: Racial Epithet Mars Central School; Bicycle Stolen at Grand Prix Race

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from June 23 to 29.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please email the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

 

June 29

Graffiti — Criminal defacement was reported at 1:06 p.m. on the 700 block of Vernon Avenue. More graffiti was found behind Glencoe Coffee Roast.

Marijuana Possession — A police officer saw a 16-year-old Wilmette boy rolling a cigarette at the skate park on the 1000 block of Green Bay Road at 8 p.m. The officer asked him what he had and the boy said marijuana. The boy was cited for possession of marijuana. He also allegedly had a small pipe on him.

June 28

Trespassing — A 21-year-old Northbrook man was cited on charges of possession of marijuana and trespassing on the beach at the corner of Dell Place and Lakeside Terrace at 7:53 p.m. A 18-year-old Northbrook man was also cited for trespassing. Police confiscated a pipe and a small packet of cannabis. The beach closes at 7 p.m.

Vandalism — The N-word was written in pen on a piece of playground equipment at Central School on the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue. It was found at 9:02 a.m. and quickly erased by the school janitor. The damage amounted to $10.

Graffiti was sprayed on equipment at the children's herb garden at the South School on the 200 block of Linden Avenue. The damage to the garden and roof was found at 9:58 a.m., along with a collection of beer bottles, pop cans and other trash in the herb garden. A birdbath was upended and a trellis was damaged, at a cost of $35.

Someone sprayed fresh graffiti marking the “4-corner hustler” in the alley on a building on the 700 block of Vernon Avenue, over the top of old graffiti. The new graffiti was found at 12:34 p.m. 7 p.m. on June 25 to 12:30 p.m. on June 28 at the back of Glencoe Coffee Roast. Damage was estimated at $350.

Alcohol Violation — A 42-year-old Northlake man and a 40-year-old Northbrook man were cited for having alcoholic beverages at the Glencoe Beach at 5:37 p.m.

Leaf Blower Complaint — A Highland Park man was cited for using a leaf blower out of season at 10:34 a.m. on the 400 block of Washington Avenue.

 

June 27

Burglary — An unlocked car was found with the driver's door open and the glove box open at 3:13 a.m. on the 1100 block of Fairfield Road. The break-in took place between 10:30 p.m. on June 26 and 3:10 a.m. on June 27. A passing public safety officer noticed the car door open as she passed. Nothing was reported missing.

 

June 26

Missing Phone — An Apple iPhone with a pink cover went missing between the night of June 24 and 10:31 a.m. on June 26 at the park near the South School on the 200 block of Linden Avenue.

 

June 25

Theft — A bicycle was stolen during the Glencoe Grand Prix bike race at the corner of Hazel Avenue and Vernon Avenue at 11:02 a.m. The bike had been left unattended in the bushes in front of the Shell gas station. It was worth $7,000.

Stray Dog — A dogowner was cited for letting her Burmese mountain dog run loose at the corner of Linden Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue at 10:34 a.m.

Missing Dog — A woman reported that her red female mini golden-doodle escaped from her yard at 5:54 p.m. on the 700 block of Grove Street. The dog is named Charlie.

Credit Card Deception — Someone removed $500 from a Sarasota, Fla. man's MB Financial account in Glencoe between 6:59 a.m. and 7:03 a.m. The cardholder discovered the theft when he tried to make a debit card purchase in Florida.

 

June 24

Missing Wallet — A man lost his wallet at the Metra commuter lot at the corner of Green Bay Road and Park Avenue at 9:31 a.m.

Theft — A locked, $2,000 bicycle stolen at the Glencoe depot was recovered in Wilmette at 8:35 p.m. It was stolen between 7:50 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. on June 24.

 

June 23

Property Damage — Tree limbs fell in a storm and damaged village property at 11:03 a.m. on the 300 block of Hazel Avenue.

Juvenile Nuisance — Two 13-year-old boys were running across the railroad tracks with a 21-year-old Chicago man at 5:06 p.m. on the 700 block of Old Green Bay Road The man was released and the two boys were turned over to their parents.

Juveniles were seen climbing on the scaffolding on the north side of the Central School on the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue but were gone when police arrived at 6:54 p.m.
