Glencoe Blotter: Magazine Solicitor Arrested Over Violation; 2 Cars Damaged in Vandalism

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from May 5-11.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

Lost Item — A woman reported she lost an orange bag with a chick on it. The bag contained a white cardigan sweater as well as a yellow shirt. The property was lost at Shelton Park at the corner of Green Bay Road and Shelton Street on May 10 and reported at 3:15 p.m. May 11.

Missing Dog — A man reported at 4:31 p.m. his beloved pet Tavi went missing at 4 p.m. on the 1100 block of Green Bay Road. Tavi is a white male dog wearing a collar with Glencoe tags.

Public Intoxication — A drunken man was standing in the middle of the intersection of Park Avenue and Green Bay Road at 11:28 p.m., making a phone call. He was asked to call a cab from the sidewalk.

May 10

Suspicious Noise — Two skateboarders on Grove Street were making a bunch of noise at 12:15 a.m. and asked to stop.

May 9

Solicitor Arrested — Price Williams III, 45, of Traverse City, MI, was arrested on charges of soliciting without a permit at 8:03 p.m. He was stopped earlier for trying to sell magazine subscriptions, and given a warning. Police said he was taken into custody after he tried to do it again. His court date is set for June 16.

Scam Suspected — A man suspected a potential tenant of conducting a scam. He sought to rent out an apartment over a garage in the 400 block of Grove Street on Craig's List. A woman sent him a fake check for $5,000, then asked him to wire her $1,800 from the check so she could cover her airfare from London. He didn't send her the money.

May 8

Theft of Services — A boy stiffed a taxi driver on a ride from Highland Park to the 0-100 block of Maple Hill Road in Glencoe. He ran up a $23 fare, but walked out without paying. The suspect is a white male teenager between 17 and 19 years old, 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds. He wore dark Adidas pants, a white T-shirt and a Cubs cap.

No Drivers License — Arturo Elizalde-Arrevalo, 54, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving with an expired license and disobeying a traffic control sign at 1:45 p.m. on Dundee Road at the Edens Expressway. Elizalde-Arrevalo was driving a silver 2001 Chevy Cavalier east on Dundee, then made an illegal U-Turn to get on the freeway when he was stopped. Police said he told officers that his license expired in 2005, and he just never renewed it. His court date is set for June 7.

May 7

Theft of Services — Several teenagers ran up a $49.49 cab fare in a 303 taxi and ran out without paying at 10:17 p.m.. A 16-year-old boy left his wallet and identification in the cab, and his father paid the fare.

May 6

Teen Smoking — A group of children were reportedly smoking cigarettes on the playground at the park on the corner of Bluff Street and South Avenue at 5:56 p.m.

Suspicious Person — A person was asked to not return to Glencoe parks after admitting being there to stare at the little girls at 7:36 p.m. at Tudor and Vernon. He was picked up in the business district. He was screened for offenses, but was not a registered sex offender.

Disoriented Man — A disoriented 64-year-old man started talking to officers collecting donations with boots at the corner of Park and Vernon at 8 a.m. He told them he had walked to Glencoe from Hammond, IN, where he had been reported missing.

May 5

Stolen Bike — A blue and gold Schwinn Mesa mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the basement of an apartment building in the 300 block of Park Avenue at 2:01 p.m. The theft occurred between 4 p.m. May 3 and 2 p.m. May 5. The bike had a black six-pack cooler attachment mounted on the frame and was worth $200.

Vandalism — Someone apparently walked on the roofs and hoods of a red 2004 Mini-Cooper and a silver 2004 Volkswagen Passat between 9 p.m. May 4 and 7:30 a.m. May 5, denting and damaging the bodies of the cars. The damage was reported in excess of $500.

Telephone Harassment — Offensive phone calls were received at 2:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Skokie Ridge Drive.
