Glencoe Blotter: Former Grand Foods Employee Charged with Credit Card Fraud; Seven Burglaries Strike Village

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from May 19 to May 25.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please email the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

 

May 25

Fraud — Glencoe Public Safety arrested two women and accused them of stealing a credit card from Grand Foods and using it to buy items on the Home Shopping Network.

Latoya S. Hill, 29, of Chicago and Catrice Brown, 37, of Chicago were arrested on felony charges of unlawful use of a credit card at Grand Foods. Public Safety spokesman Deputy Chief Al Kebby said they attempted to rack up $9,700 worth of charges. The women are being held in Cook County Jail in Chicago pending their next court appearance at Skokie Court House on June 2. Bail has been set at $3,000 for Hill, a former Grand Foods employee and bail is set at $5,000 for Brown.

Juvenile Nuisance — Teenagers were reportedly getting on top of a garage on the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue at 6:12 p.m.

 

May 24

Burglary —A series of break-ins were reported in Glencoe. For more on this story,

Someone rifled through an unlocked black 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup truck and stole a $100 Garmin GPS device on the 600 block of Sunset Lane between 6:15 p.m. on May 23 and 6:30 a.m. on May 24. The incident was reported from the 800 block of Old Green Bay Road at 8:47 a.m.

Someone broke into an unlocked silver 2006 Acura MDX parked in its owner's driveway on the 1000 block of Hohlfelder Road between 7 p.m. on May 23 and 8 a.m. on May 24. A driver's license and two credit cards were missing from a wallet found in the center console when the owner reported the incident at 9:20 a.m. Two purchases were reported in Evanston with one of the credit cards following the burglary.

An unlocked blue 2010 Mazda was reportedly burglarized between 8 p.m. on May 23 and 6 a.m. on May 24 on the 1000 block of Hohlfelder Road. Two iPod music players were stolen worth $250 each and a Garmin GPS device worth $150. The incident was reported at 7:06 p.m.

A burglar entered an unlocked white 2008 Ford Taurus between 7:30 p.m. on May 23 and 5:30 a.m. on May 24 and stole $40, two iPod music players and a fly-fishing tod. The burglary on the 600 block of Dundee Road was reported at 8:08 p.m. and the total value of the items taken amounted to $570.

No Drivers License — Jesus V. Venegas-Rosales, 41, of Chicago was arrested on charges of driving without a license, driving without insurance and improper lane usage at 4:01 p.m. at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Westley Road. He was pulled over after he used the center turn lane to pass another car in his black 1996 Toyota Camry. His court date is set for July 11.

 

May 23

Theft — The driver's side portion of the grill of a black Pontiac Grand Prix was taken off between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the 300 block of Temple Court.

Driving with a Suspended License — Miguel A. Perez Torres, 46, of Bellwood was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and making an improper turn. Perez Torress reportedly turned his white 1998 Chevy truck into the path of a second car, causing an accident at 9:12 a.m. on the 2100 block of Frontage Road. His court date is set for June 21.

Fraud — Someone tried to cash stolen checks at Chase Bank on the 0-100 block of Green Bay Road at 8:09 a.m.

 

May 21

Graffiti — Fresh graffiti was found at 7:18 p.m. on several ramps at the skate park outside the Takiff Center on the 900 block of Green Bay Road. The markings included “Skate and Destroy,” “Got to Live High to Get Down Low” and “Hail Satan,” as well as multiple pot-smoking frogs. The ramps were marked up between 8 p.m. on May 20 and 7:15 p.m. on May 21.

Juvenile Nuisance — A pack of six 14-year-old boys reportedly rang a doorbell on a dare and then took off at 10:05 p.m. on the 600 block of Country Lane.

 

May 20

Man Bites Man — A man reported at 11:18 a.m. that he was assaulted at work at 1:30 p.m. on May 19 at Fields Infiniti on the 2100 block of Frontage Road. He said his co-worker bit him in the side of the back in the midst of a fight at the car wash.

Burglary — Someone tried to burglarize a house between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.on the 1100 block of Oak Ridge Drive. The incident was reported at 3:55 p.m. The burglars kicked in a basement window which set off an alarm, so then they ran through the house and out the front door. Nothing was taken.

A burglary was reported at 8:45 p.m. on the 700 block of Woodridge Lane. Someone pried open a basement window and stole Jewelry and silver flatware between 10:15 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Theft — A barber shop sign that was inside the storm door was stolen from Andy's Barber Shop between 9 a.m. on May 19 and 9 a.m. on May 20 on the 600 block of Vernon Avenue. The sign is worth $15.

Garage Fire — A garage caught on fire at 7:57 p.m. on the 500 block of Longwood Avenue. The neighbors reported smoke coming through the detached garage. Most of the valuable items were removed from the garage.

 

May 19

Burglary — Burglars forced open a door on an external sunroom but were unable to enter the main house between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the 300 block of Sheridan Road.
