Glencoe Blotter: Fairways and Greens Scarred at Lake Shore Country Club

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from July 21 to 23.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please email the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

Vandalism — Someone caused damage to six greens and fairways, scarring them up with cleats and carving designs into the lawn with the flag pole. The damage was found at the Lake Shore Country Club on the 1200 block of Sheridan Road at 8:27 a.m. on Saturday, July 23.

Fire — Lightning apparently struck a house on the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue at 3:06 a.m., causing the house to catch fire and resulting in total damage after the second floor collapsed. No one was in the house at the time and the homeowners were out of state. Glencoe Public Safety had an engine at the scene and 15 officers. Back-up fire units were called from Long Grove, Highland Park, Northbrook, Highwood, Niles, Evanston and Winnetka.

July 22

Underage Consumption — A New Lenox teenager allegedly came out of the bushes on the 300 block of Hawthorn Avenue and began yelling hysterically at the newspaper delivery person at 4:21 a.m. Bryan J. Hennessy, 19, of New Lenox was cited on charges of underage consumption. He told police that he had been partying in Evanston and was trying to find his way to his uncle's house in Northfield. He said he could not remember how he got to Glencoe.

Public Alcohol Consumption — Charles W. Goudie III, 22, of Hinsdale and Jacob E. Groch, 22, of Lisle were cited on charges of public consumption of alcohol at the Dell Place beach at 5:39 p.m. Two 17-year-old Northbrook girls were also cited for trespassing onto private property. Two Wilmette women were also escorted off the beach.

 

July 21

Theft — Five lawn sprinkler heads were stolen from the front of the West School on the 1000 block of Forestway Drive at 9:40 a.m.

Fraud — Reported at 7-Eleven at 1:09 a.m. on the 100 block of Green Bay Road. A cab driver picked up two teens on 1000 block of Elm Ridge Drive and dropped them off on the 1300 block of Sunview Lane in Winnetka. They allegedly paid their fare with a counterfeit $50-bill. The cabbie told police he noticed it was fake at the 7-Eleven when he went to purchase something. The teens later returned and paid him in real money, but are now under investigation for counterfeit money.

Juvenile Nuisance — Union Pacific Police reported juveniles playing on the track near the corner of Green Bay Road and South Avenue at 5:20 p.m. They were gone when Glencoe Public Safety arrived.
