Glencoe Blotter: Raccoon on the Loose, Threatened Suicide, Credit Card Theft

The following arrest information was supplied by the Glencoe Public Safety Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 4

Raccoon on the Loose— An official from the Public Works Department reported a raccoon was scurrying around the cul-de-sac in the 320 block of Temple Court.

Residents, especially kids, should stay clear of the animal, which could carry rabies. For more information, call the department at 847-767-3876.

Threatened Suicide — A 21-year-old man living in the 990 block of Forest Avenue threatened suicide through Facebook at 6:10 p.m. to his friend from high school.

The man told his friend to call him before he commits the act, prompting his friend to call the police, who couldn't determine from where the message was sent. The man did not commit suicide, according to police.

Nov. 8  

Credit Card Theft — A woman living in the 1100 block of Hohlfelder Road told Glencoe police two transactions totaling $852 were made using her credit card. The card went missing nearly a month prior.

Later, the thief purchased a computer, which was to be shipped to Houston, Texas.

Glencoe police have a group of suspects, according to Alan Kebby, deputy chief of the department, but it's still unclear if the woman's credit card number was passed to the thief by an accomplice. Police are still investigating.

Nov. 9 

'Suspicious Circumstances' — A 41-year-old woman living in the 760 block of Vernon Avenue told Glencoe police she and her husband witnessed in the preceding week numerous "suspicious circumstances," as reported by the officer, including a piece of gum stuck to a railing behind their home's back door.

Also, she told police that people were milling about the train station on Halloween afternoon and a public works official was sorting through a garbage can on Park Avenue.

Nov. 11

Criminal Damage — Police received a report at 8:50 a.m. that graffiti had been sprayed on the railroad overpass in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue. The graffiti will cost approximately $30 for the Glencoe Public Works Department to erase. The overpass is owned by Union Pacific railroad and used by commuter rail system.
