Glencoe Blotter: 3 Underage Drinking Parties Busted; Volkswagen Hit with Rock

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from June 2-8.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

Noise Violation — A 50-year-old Vernon Hills man was cited for operating a noisy leaf blower near a school or church at 3:29 p.m. in the 300 block of South Avenue.

Barking Dog — An 85-year-old man was cited for allowing his dog to bark uncontrollably at 7:23 a.m. in the 300 block of Surfside Place.

June 6

Driving with Suspended License — David Ramirez, 18, of Palatine. was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and speeding at 1:42 p.m. at Dundee Road and Greenwood Avenue. He was stopped driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone in a blue 2004 Dodge Neon. His court date is June 21.

Suspicious Person — A thinly built Hispanic man in a black shirt and yellow shorts was reportedly acting belligerently toward people in vehicles, knocking on car windows at 7:05 p.m. at the corner of Hazel and Vernon avenues.

Bicyclist Struck — A 17-year-old girl from Kenosha, WI, allegedly hit a man riding his bicycle with her car at 7:41 p.m. at the corner of Dundee and Forestway roads.

June 5

Driving Under the Influence — Benjamin M. Levine, 19, of Glencoe, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 1:27 a.m. at the corner of Forest Avenue and Maple Hill Road. After he was pulled over in a silver 2009 Acura for failing to signal a turn, police smelled a strong odor of alcohol. Police said Levine had no valid driver’s license or insurance. His court date is July 11.

Property Damage — A rock was thrown to crack the windshield of a white 2006 Volkswagen Phaeton parked behind a house in the 600 block of Dundee Road at 2:19 p.m. A rock with strange scribblings was found beside the car.

Suspicious Incident — Four teenage boys were reportedly smoking marijuana on a park bench at the corner of Longwood and Park avenues. Police were given a description of the clothing they wore.

June 4

Trespassing — Carl W. Stremmel, 46, of Wilmette, was arrested on charges of trespassing after his former wife reported him at her house in the 200 block of Woodlawn Avenue at 10:33 a.m. His court date is June 21.

Two people from Wheeling, a 27-year-old man and 33-year-old woman, were charged with trespassing at 12:18 a.m. at Lakefront Park at the corner of Longwood and Park avenues. They were in the park after hours.

Theft — Two bales of cardboard for recycling were reported stolen from a loading dock at Grand Foods in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue at 4:42 p.m. The theft occurred between 8:30 p.m. June 3 and 6 a.m. June 4.

A 17-year-old Glencoe boy was arrested on charges of underage possession of alcohol after police said he hosted a party in the 400 block of South Avenue at 11:12 p.m. Police also issued underage drinking citations to three 17-year-old Glencoe boys, an 18-year-old Wilmette man, two 18-year-old Wilmette women, a 17-year-old Wilmette girl, a 17-year-old Winnetka boy and two 16-year-old girls. The subjects were released to their parents at the scene.

The party was discovered when police stopped a taxi that made an illegal U-turn in front of the house. When the flashing lights of the police car went on, up to 30 teens fled from the house.

Driving With Suspended License — Juan Garcia, 23, of North Chicago, was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and improper lane usage at 6:38 p.m. near Green Bay Road and Turnbull Woods. He was stopped after police said he crossed over the double yellow line on Green Bay in his white 2005 Ford Explorer. His court date is July 11.

Driving After Drinking Underage — Carmel R. Russo, 19, of Evanston was arrested on charges of driving after drinking underage at 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Harbor Avenue. She was pulled over in a red 2005 Toyota Solara for driving with one headlight and no rear registration light. Police cited her for both violations. Her court date is July 11.

Minor in Possession — Three people were cited for underage possession of liquor and four people were cited for trespassing at the Glencoe Beach at 12:30 a.m. Police cited a 20-year-old Wheeling woman, an 18-year-old Buffalo Grove woman and a 19-year-old Wheeling man with underage possession as well as trespassing. A 21-year-old Buffalo Grove man was also cited for trespassing. Police said the suspects had multiple open bottles of alcohol and cans of beer at the beach.

A 17-year-old Winnetka boy was cited for a minor in possession of alcohol at 9:59 p.m. at the corner of Washington and Vernon avenues.

June 3

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia — Stephen J. Bora, 19, of Northfield, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana at 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Washington Avenue.

Police approached a silver and black 2008 Honda Fit with three male occupants at the Skokie Country Club and smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from the car. Police said Bora admitted to having marijuana as well as a pipe. The other two males were released without charge. Bora’s court date is July 11.

Solicitor with Marijuana — Kimberly M. Thoreson, 29, of Haskell, OK, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana at 9:18 p.m. in the 400 block of Woodlawn Avenue.

She had allegedly been soliciting door-to-door after hours with two other men, one from Chicago and the other from Lauderdale Lakes, FL, who were cited for soliciting after hours.

Police could smell marijuana coming from the van that was used to pick up the solicitors. Thoreson paid a $75 fine over having the marijuana.

Credit Card Deception — A resident reported $300 worth of unauthorized charges appeared on his credit card for items he didn’t order. Some of the items showed up at his apartment at 1:02 p.m. in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue.

Juvenile Nuisance — Three teenagers were being disrespectful with their skateboards in the street in the 900 block of Sheridan Road at 7:15 p.m.

Children were running around the neighborhood and screaming at 10:50 p.m. in the 800 block of Glencoe Drive.

June 2

Noise Complaint — A Lemont landscaping company was cited for using a loud leaf blower and doing business without a landscaping license displayed at 12:32 p.m. in the 500 block of Jackson Avenue.

A Skokie landscaping company was cited over a leaf blower complaint at 2:38 p.m. in the 300 block of Brookside Lane.
