Evanston Firefighers Want Your Vote

Online contest continues for favorite station among the city's five

The November elections are now a memory and the municipal elections are a few months from now, but if there is a person who needs to get out and vote on something right now, think big red trucks and blaring sirens.

The Evanston Fire Department is conducting its inaugural, “What’s Your Favorite Firehouse.” Residents can go to www.engageevanston.org to make their selections of which of the city’s five stations are their personal favorite.

All of the houses had pictures taken recently by city staff to give personalize their homes away from homes. Station Two went so far as to have a picture of a Christmas tree wrapped in plastic with yellow caution tape normally seen at the site of an investigation.

The prize for the winning company will be top placement on the Fire Department’s Facebook page.

People who want to participate will be asked to register with a new online voting mechanism.

The Evanston Fire Department has 110 employees and they responded to just over 9,000 calls in 2011.

Great idea! Will the Fire Department be making a calendar with pictures of the 12 "hottest" firefighters?

My problem is that there are two fire stations on my street. Which to choose? Which to choose? I may have to go with the closest. LOL

Fire station No. 2 is by far and away my favorite. Firefighters are the only city employees who actually save lives. No other city employees works for the people, they work to get paid. firefighters work for the people. I know, they've saved my life before.
