Driver Rescued From Flooded Ditch, Charged With DUI

Rescue workers pulled a man out from an overturned car in a ditch on the Edens near Willow Road on Monday night.

After he was pulled from his overturned car in a flooded ditch, a Gurnee man was charged with drunken driving.

Larry Alexander, 67, was driving north on the Edens Expressway near the Willow Road exit in Northfield when his car collided with another, the Tribune and WGN-TV report. Alexander's car flipped and landed in a ditch on the side of the highway, and a passing motorist stopped to help.

"The car was flipped, so I ran into the water really quick, and the door was closed on the left side because it was underwater in the mud," Victor Voskovsky told NBC. "So I ran around and I opened it. The guy was basically underwater."
