Air Soft Device Incident at School Playground, Money Gram Scam, Thefts

From gift cards being stolen from the mail to bike and retail theft, here are the latest reports from Winnetka Police Department.

Money Gram Scam

A resident in the 800 block of Higginson Lane reported to police that he unknowingly became involved in a Money Gram transfer scam between Oct. 17 and 19. The amount of loss is estimated at $5,699, police said. 

Gaming Credits Theft

A resident in the 1100 block of Cherry Street reported not receiving gaming credits after paying for them via the Internet on Oct. 19, police said. 

Gift Cards Stolen From Mail

A resident in the 500 block of Chestnut Street reported that someone removed two gift cards from an envelope she sent using the U.S. mail, police said. The loss is estimated at $40, according to police. 

Retail Theft

A 17-year-old teen from the New Trier Township area was involved in a retail theft at 88 Green Bay Road, police said. The stolen property was returned to the store manager and the incident was on scene, police said. 

Bike Theft

An unlocked black Giant boy’s bike valued at $400 was discovered missing from the football field at 1300 Spruce Street between 5 p.m, on Oct. 19 and noon on Oct. 20, police said. 

Warrant Arrest

Justin P. Glees, 25, of 701 154th, South Holland, was arrested on a traffic warrant out of Kane County following a traffic stop in the 300 block of Fairview Avenue. Glee was taken into custody and released to the Kane County Sheriff’s Police Department. 

Air Soft Device Used at School Playground

Winnetka police responded to Greeley Elementary School playground, 275 Fairview Ave., on Oct. 21 for an incident involving several youths and the use of an air soft device. Police are still investigating the incident. 

Identity Theft

A resident in the 800 block of Bryant Avenue reported to police that someone filed a fraudulent federal income tax return using the resident’s name and social security number sometime between April 15 and Oct. 18. The amount of loss is unknown, police said.
