$7,900 in Losses Linked to ATM Skimming Device

An illegal monitoring device was discovered at the Harris Bank in Hubbard Woods.

Several unauthorized withdrawals were reported to Winnetka police in connection to a "skimming device" discovered on an automated teller machine (ATM) at a  in Hubbard Woods, according to police reports.

A technician working on the branch's ATM found the device, which is used to capture users' access numbers. Bank employees were notified, but a Harris Bank investigator said no losses had been reported at the time.

Since then, one victim reported $1,915 was withdrawn from her Harris Bank Mastercard debit card on May 23. Police received two reports of unauthorized ATM withdrawals of $2,012 each on May 23. Another $2,012 was reported missing from a checking account on May 27.

The losses so far have totaled $7,951.
