Obituary: Ann Whitfield Roberts of Northfield

Ann Whitfield Roberts grew up in Winnetka and worked for Time-Life Magazine and a theatrical agency in New York City before moving to Northfield.

Ann Whitfield Roberts died peacefully on April 16th from Alzheimer’s disease and other medical complications. She grew up in Winnetka, IL, where she attended North Shore Country Day School through the 9th grade. She attended and graduated from Westover School, Middlebury, CT in 1953. After earning an Associate of Arts degree from Briarcliff Jr. College in Briartcliff Manor, NY in 1955, she worked in New York City for Time-Life Magazine and then a Theatrical Agency where Peter Falk and Bradford Dillman were clients. While in New York, she met John H. Roberts who was serving in the U. S. Navy and they were married in March 1957. They moved to Grosse Pointe, MI in 1958 where their daughter, Juli was born. In 1960 they moved back to Northfield, IL and their son, Murray was born. 

Ann love life and people, was an active tennis player at the Middlefork Tennis Club in Northfield, as well as an active golfer at the Glen View Club in Golf, IL. She was also a member of the Junior League of Chicago, The Contemporary Club and served on the Women’s Board of Children’s Memorial Hospital where she also did volunteer work. Other memberships included the Northfielders Garden Club, the Kenilworth Garden Club, and in Vero Beach, FL she and her husband were members of Riomar Country Club, Bent Pine Golf Club and the Moorings Club. She was also one of the first two women on the Vestry at the Church of Saint James the Less in Northfield. 

She is survived by her husband of John, her daughter Juli R. (Gavin) Blunt, her son Murray S. Roberts and four granddaughters Whitney & Kailey Blunt, Cecilia and Jessica Roberts.

A memorial service is set for Thursday June 6 at 4 p.m. at Saint James the Less Episcopal Church in Northfield.
