Fall II registration is open now! Classes run from October 28 through December 22. Sign up before October 19 to take advantage of lower early registration rates! Visit www.nsymca.org for information and online registration.

Bike Donations Get People to Work. Community Activities of Northbrook, a new social action organization for youth, will sponsor a bike donation drive at the North Suburban Y on Sunday, October 13 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Bikes and other donations will be given to Working Bikes, a non-profit that provides bikes to individuals around the world who need transportation to work or school. Any size bike is welcome! Try a Tri. Don’t let your fitness regimen slow down this winter. Get off to a great start with the Y’s Try a Tri Ironman Challenge. Participants complete a full indoor triathlon over the course of eight weeks (October 21 to December 15). Complete the challenge to receive an official NSYMCA Triathlon Tech T-shirt. Registration fee is $15 before October 14, $20 after. Visit the Y front desk to sign up.

Basketball Season is Here. The Y’s Developmental Basketball League for boys and girls in grades K-6 starts on November 2. Participants learn the fundamentals of basketball, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. Registration includes a team jersey. Basketball/Volleyball Private Lessons. Hoping to jumpstart a new sport, or focus on perfecting your skills? The Y offers private basketball and volleyball lessons for all ages to deliver customized coaching in a comfortable setting. Contact Carol Sassorossi, csassorossi@nsymca.org, for more information.

Fall Fashion Show at Pinstripes—This Thursday!  The NSYMCA is proud to be selected as a benefitting organization for the 2013 Fall Trend Fashion Event “Diamonds and Denim” to be held at Pinstripes on October 10 beginning at 6:00pm. This exciting evening event includes drinks, appetizers, a silent auction, live music, and a spectacular fashion show. General admission tickets are $75, VIP tickets including after-party are $150. Halloween Party Time. Get your costume ready for the Y’s 6th Annual Spooky Halloween Party, scheduled for Sunday, October 20 from 2:00 to 5:00pm. Enjoy haunted houses, costume contests, art projects, trick or treating, and the famous Spooky Boat Ride. Children with special needs and their families have exclusive access from 1:30 to 2:00pm. Admission is free for Y members, $10/family for non-members.

Yarn Drive for Charity. Did you know that October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month? Support local families by donating yarn to the Silver Threads Sewing Group, in memory of Andrew and Xavier Clark. Donations will be used to make blankets, gowns, and IV sleeves for hospitalized infants. Visit the Y front desk to make donations.

New Fitness Programs: If you’re looking to pump up your fitness routine, check out the Y’s options for small group training and classes. Programs like Strength, Stability and Heart, Tabata, Jump Start and Off-Season Triathlon Training will keep you in great shape all winter long. Exercise Connection, a leader in physical fitness training for individuals with special needs, now offers a fitness course for adults with autism spectrum disorders at the North Suburban Y. Classes focus on core skills including body image, posture, motor coordination, muscular fitness and cardiovascular fitness.  Northbrook resident and Director in Training for the Exercise Connection, Laura Fine will lead the class. Class size is limited and one-on-one aide support is available. The Y is proud to offer professional massage services from Align Wellness Center. Appointments are available for 25 minute or 55 minute sessions in our comfortable Health Center, adjacent to our adult locker rooms. Sign up for appointments at the Y front desk. Do you have a child starting half-day kindergarten in the fall? Enrich their experience with the Y’s Kindergarten Club extension program! Kindergarten Club creates a fun, full-day experience to support your child’s social and academic development. Afternoon sessions are available, including transportation to/from public schools in Northbrook  as well as St. Norbert’s. Hot lunches, snacks, and even swim lessons are all included! Also, check out Y-Time, the NSYMCA’s afterschool program for grades K-5. Limited openings available in each program. Parents, please note: non-member guests under the age of 18 must have a signed waiver on file to use YMCA facilities. Please stop by the front desk for more information. Also, unattended children under age 10 are not permitted in the building.
