Traveling for Fourth of July? Find the Cheapest Gas Around Winnetka

The Illinois Tollway is expecting more than 6.5 million vehicles will travel the tollway system this Fourth of July weekend.

The Illinois Tollway is expecting more than 6.5 million vehicles will travel the tollway system this Fourth of July weekend with the heaviest travel expected on July 3, when more than 1.6 million vehicles are expected on the road, compared with the daily average of 1.4 million, according to a press release.

Travelers are advised to leave early and stay late to avoid traffic delays. Travellers can avoid heavier traffic by leaving before noon on Fridays and waiting until after 6 p.m. to return home on Sundays.

Tollway statistics show that about 35 percent of all vehicles traveling westbound on the I-90 toward Wisconsin over the summer months will head out of town between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday afternoons.
