Sacred Heart Parish of Winnetka will again be sponsoring Hoof It for Haiti, a 5K Charity Race and 1K Fun Run for Kids on May 22, 2011 beginning at 8 AM in Glencoe, (registration at 6:30am).

The race will wind through the broad, leafy streets east of the historic Glencoe train station. Up to 400 runners are expected. Teams and individual runners will be participating. Team and age group prizes will be awarded.

The proceeds of the race will be used to create a safe drinking water supply for St Jean Baptiste, our twin Parish in Sassier, a very poor community located in the mountains of Southwest Haiti.

Water-borne diseases are the largest killers of infants and children in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The Sassier area currently has no safe drinking water supply for its 10,000 residents. Water-borne diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid fever and cholera sicken thousands of people across Haiti every year.
