Off Campus Writers Workshop presents Fred Shafer - "Time in Fiction" - 4-day Writers' Workshop, at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln, Winnetka

Fred Shafer, teacher, writer, and editor, opens the Off Campus Writers' Workshop (OCWW) year with a four-day program that explores the concept of sustaining an effective time scheme in short stories and novels. Fred will help writers develop proper techniques of incorporating time as the instrument of change in a story, using selected examples from adult literary fiction, genre novels, and child and young adult fiction. Fred's style of encouragement and expertise delivers positive interactive skill development to authors and filmmakers at all stages on their way to publish. Fred teaches in the Northwestern School of Continuing Studies, and in private workshops. As an editor and a teacher, he has taken part in the publication of more than two dozen books of fiction. He has also worked with film editors on scripts, and one motion picture on which he received screen credit won six first prizes at the Milan Film Festival, including best film and best screenplay. His own essays, reviews, and interviews have appeared in several periodicals.OCWW meets Thursdays, 9:30 - Noon, at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave., Winnetka, from September to May each year. You don't have to be a member to attend, but members receive session discounts and may participate in manuscript critiques by presenters, and in dynamic critique groups during the year.
