Movers in the Sky: Comets, Meteors, and Asteroids
Comet ISON will graze the sun’s atmosphere on November 28. If it survives its solar encounter, ISON could emerge glowing as brightly as the moon and visible to the unaided eye, even in broad daylight! Learn all about comets and other fascinating “movers in the sky,” which are actually different types of small bodies left over from the solar system’s formation.
Astrophysicist and former NASA consultant Kevin Manning presented a very popular program here last spring and returns on Columbus Day (a no-school day) for another vivid peek at the universe. If the sky is clear, participants are invited to go outside with Dr. Manning after the program to view sunspots through NASA-approved filters. This program is for adults and children ages 10 and older.
