Life on the Edge, presented by Moshe Pomerantz, Teacher, Lecturer
In Israel, if you don't live in any of the three major population centers of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem or Haifa, you are considered to be living on the periphery. This is akin to the American English terms of 'the boonies,' 'the sticks' or being a 'country bumpkin.' Part 1 of this 2-part program explores the background to why and how the outlying areas were settled and the rich cultural and social movements that can be found in the periphery through lecture, film clips, and even music. These people and places are by no means 'the back water.' In Part 2, Moshe Pomerantz introduces you to Shemi Zarchin, the writer, director, and movie maker who is the voice of the periphery. Scenes from his latest hit, The World is Funny, will be explored.
Two Mondays, 11/4 - 11/11 from 1 - 3pm
