Glenn Kotche and Jeffrey Zeigler Performance

Cellist Jeffrey Ziegler, formerly of the internationally renowned Kronos Quartet, and Glenn Kotche, drummer of  Wilco, will be coming to the Lutheran Church of the Ascension to perform a concert of music that combines rock, classical, electronic and audio-visual mediums in an explosive array of artistry that has few precedents.  The program will include three world premieres by composers Mischa Zupko (co-music director at Ascension), John Zorn and Glenn Kotche as well as the Chicago premiere of a new work by Philip Glass.

Zeigler has been deemed by the New York Times as “excellent”, and a player who performs “with unforced simplicity and beauty of tone”.  He has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, has premiered over 200 works and has been the recipient of the Avery Fischer Prize, the Polar Music Prize, the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recorded Arts and the Chamber Music America Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award among others.

Kotche, in addition to his 13-year tenure with Wilco, a time during which the band’s accomplishments included the gold-selling album “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” and the Grammy-winning “A Ghost is Born”, was named the 40th best drummer of all time by Gigwise in 2008 and has more than 70 recordings to his name.
