Dickens and the City of London (NSSC Class)
Charles Dickens had intimate knowledge of the city of London, which he loved and explored. This class traces some of the most important areas of London in Dickens' life and work, focusing on the most crucial and central London sites in "Bleak House, Little Dorrit," and "Pickwick Papers." The presentation will take you to the fog-enshrouded 15th century Old Hall of "Bleak House," the site of Mr. Tulkinghorn's murder, and the desperate, tucked-away dwellings of Captain Hawdon and Mr. Krook; the crumbling walls of the Marshalsea Debtors Prison and the heart-warming Dorrit Vestry of "Little Dorrit"; and the local Gladstone Arms pub of "Pickwick Papers." Linda Putnam, Lecturer & Independent Scholar, presents the lecture.
