1. Update: 2011 New Trier Grad and Winnetka Native Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

Wilson King, a 20-year-old student from Winnetka was killed on April 12 after being hit by a car on the western edge of the University of Denver campus. According to the Denver medical examiner's office, King was struck by a vehicle while walking and was pronounced dead at the scene.

3. Memorial Service Set for Wilson King

Memorial services were held April 19 for Wilson Duval King, the 20-year-old New Trier graduate and Winnetka native that died after being struck by a car in Denver.

 

4. Suspect in Winnetka Stabbing Gets $300K Bail

Mitchell Silverstein, the 17-year-old Glenview resident charged with felony attempted murder for a Winnetka stabbing over an iPhone theft last week, had bond set at $300,000 during a court appearance in late March.

The torrential rain in mid April led to Fuller Lane in Winnetka being under 2-3 feet of water and Winnetka Public Schools District 36, as well as Winnetka Community Nursing School, both closed due to the flooding.

New Trier High School has been named the No. 12 school in Illinois on a list of the best public high schools in the country in 2013 from U.S. News and World Report. 

 

7. Updated: Over 20 Cases of Fraud Linked to Treasure Island in Wilmette

The Wilmette Police Department investigated 22 cases of identity theft, all citing the local Treasure Island grocery store located at 911 Ridge Rd. as the suspected point of theft, according to police reports. Out of the 22 cases, nine reported that their card numbers had been fraudulently used in Texas.

9. Carry Buck to Retire from WHOA - For Now

While the Winnetka Home Owners Association (WHOA) may be one of the most dividing organizations in the Village, there's no doubt that its had it's affect on the community — whether it was pushing for the election of specific local candidates or sending out email blasts to it's over 2,000 subscribers. But it just may be the end of an era, as WHOA founder and co-manager (along with Ann Dillon) Carry Buck announced plans to retire for the time being.

 

10. Juvenile Arrested for Indiscriminately Striking People at Baha'i Temple

A 16-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody after reportedly indiscriminately striking people at the Wilmette Baha'i Temple on April 20, police reports state.
