Strange Animal Calls Abound at Glencoe Public Safety

It may still be June, but it's already been a summer full of strange animal calls for Glencoe Public Safety. Here are some of the strangest crimes.

We're not even done with June and it's already been a strange summer for animals in Glencoe. The animal incidents in recent Glencoe Public Safety blotters have been sometimes bizarre, sometimes hilarious and very often adorable, from baby raccoons cozying up to a pool cleaner to baby ducks picking a bad time to cross the road. 

Here are some of our favorite animal moments from recent Glencoe Public Safety blotters. 

Flying Squirrel in Residence
A resident on the 200 block of Old Greenbay Rd. reported a sugar glider in their residence, Glencoe Public Safety reports state. The incident, which happened on May 30, occurred when what has been verified as a Northern Flying Squirrel got inside through a sliding glass door. The squirrel, which was healthy, was caught in a box but escaped and glided away into the neighbor's yard onto a tree. 

Aggressive Baby Raccoons
A pool service man at a home on the 100 block of Maple Hill Rd. reported that aggressive baby raccoons wouldn't leave him alone, police reports state. The two weeks old baby raccoons wandered from the pool to a wooded area of the yard. The pool service man was told to leave them alone and their mom would come for them.

Baby Ducks Crossing Highway
A caller on May 25 reported that a mother duck with eight ducklings were crossing the southbound Eden's Expressway near Dundee Rd., police reports state. The call was transferred to the Illinois State Police. 

Sick Owl Reported
A caller from the Parks Department stated that there was a sick owl on the north side of the soccer field at South School by the stone benches, Glencoe Public Safety report states. The incident occurred on May 31. 

Baby Duck Crossing
Twelve baby ducks were reported crossing at Greenwood Ave. and Woodlawn Ave. on June 7.
