Update: Power Out Along the North Shore

ComEd has indicated that about 280,000 customers are without power in the northern suburbs.

About 33 percent of ComEd customers living in Glencoe, or 1,128 customers, are still without power, as of 4 p.m. on Monday, July 11. The report was issued from the Village of Glenoce. 

"Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) has indicated that more than 561,000 Chicago-area customers are presently without electricity," read the report. "Approximately fifty (50%) of these outages (282,000) are localized across the northern suburbs."

About 1,240 ComEd customers in Glencoe are without electrical power, as of 12 p.m. on Monday, according to a new statement by the Village of Glencoe.

The report also said that the number of ComEd customers across the Chicago region without power is now at about 576,000, while within the northern suburbs, the number is about 253,000.

According to a statement released by the Village of Glencoe, Monday morning's storm led to power outages for more than 615,000 Chicago-area customers, with about 45 percent, or 280,000 customers, residing in the northern suburbs.

The Latest in Winnetka

Three circuits of the electrical system in Winnetka went down on Monday morning when the storm hit at 8 a.m., according to Winnetka Village Manager Rob Bahan. About 2,000 customers did not have power.

By 11 a.m. on Monday, two of the three circuits were back up and running, while about 1,100 customers were still without electrical service.

In addition, three utility poles were damaged, and Public Works crews are cleaning up the downed trees and limbs around town, while ComEd's crews are responding to outages.

The Latest in Glencoe

In Glencoe, some residents remain without power as well, while the village crews clean up from the storm.

"Glencoe’s Department of Public Works is presently working to complete storm-related clean-up throughout the Village, including the removal of downed trees and/or limbs located on public property or along Village right-of-ways," reads the status update. "Since the onset of this storm event, staff has reported the location of various downed power lines throughout the Village directly to ComEd."

The Village of Glencoe advises residents with fallen trees to hire contractors to remove the trees from private property. Branches, however, can be picked up by Village personnel if they are moved to the parkway.

Monday's has left 80,00 Illinois residents without power, according to Tony Hernandez, a ComEd spokesperson.

In ComEd's northern territory, which includes Winnetka, Glencoe and Northfield, about 2,500 are without power.

"We don't have a sense of when the power is coming back," said Hernandez. "We have 450 crew members out to repair storm outages, working around the clock diligently trying to restore power."

In Winnetka

Rob Bahan, Winnetka Village Manager, told Patch that the village is responding to down wires and assessing the system.

Steve Saunders, Winnetka Director of Public Works, said the department is working on a number of outages in the area.

In Northfield

The Village of Northfield is experiencing outages, according to a receptionist at the Village office, who said she received about five phone calls Monday morning.
