Flood Victims Mistakenly Believe They're FEMA Registered

Many local victims of April/May flooding mistakenly believe that they have registered with FEMA, a release from the Village of Winnetka stated on Friday.

"Speaking to insurance representatives and state and local agencies about disaster assistance does not mean registration with FEMA has taken place," the release stated.

Those registered with FEMA will receive a 9-digit Registration Identification Number verifying their registration. If you're not registered yet, you can do so online at disasterassitance.gov or by phone at (800) 462-7585. The toll-free number operates from 7AM to 10 PM daily.

On Tues., June 18, FEMA staff will visit Wilmette to meet with local victims of the flooding to answer questions and help them register for FEMA assistance. FEMA representatives will be at the Wilmette Village Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
