Fast Facts: It’s hard to find a team in the state with a tougher Super sectional assignment than New Trier. The Trevians head to the Class 4A Chicago State Super Sectional Tuesday as prohibitive underdogs despite their solid 65-42 win over Niles North to win the Glenbrook North Sectional. New Trier barely survived a tough test from Niles Notre Dame in the sectional semifinals, winning 59-58. Cook is a Princeton recruit who leads the Trevians in scoring, while Berman is a steady point guard and the school’s all-time assist leader. The 28 wins for New Trier are a school record. But no team in the state has the raw talent that three-time defending state champion Simeon boasts. It starts at the top with the nation’s top senior, Duke recruit, 2012 Gatorade National Player of the Year, USA Basketball’s 2011 Male Athlete of the Year, McDonald’s All-American and Sports Illustrated cover boy Jabari Parker. That is just a partial list of accomplishments one of Illinois’ greatest high school players has achieved. Parker showed why he’s the best player around in Friday’s dominating 69-51 win over rival and then-No. 1 ranked Young at Argo. He scored 29 points to go with 13 rebounds in the win. He is flanked by two key members of first-year Illinois coach John Groce’s initial recruiting class, Nunn and Tate. Two key transfers from Leo have also made a big impact as the Wolverines continue their quest for a record fourth straight state championship in Kendall Pollard and Russell Woods. Pollard is committed to Dayton.
