Northbrook's New Mariano's Will Be Huge

The Mariano's grocery store at Northbrook's upcoming NorthShore 770 development will be the size of two nearby grocery stores combined.

Late late year, the Village of Northbrook approved the NorthShore 770 development on the corner of Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road

The development will introduce an apartment building, retail shops and a Mariano's grocery store to the neighborhood. The grocery store alone will be about 71,000 square-feet, which is nearly the size of Northbrook's Trader Joe's and Garden Fresh Market combined, according to the Northbrook Star.

East Northbrook activist Susan Nelson rallied against the development and warned Northbrook's trustees the Mariano's will threaten the community's other grocery stores, but "Northbrook Trustee Michael Scolaro told her that his panel couldn’t legislate against competition," the Northbrook Star reports.
