Groupon Founder and Glencoe Resident Talks Changes

Eric Lefkofsky, a Groupon co-founder and a resident of Glencoe, discussed the firing of the company's CEO and the hunt for a new one.

Groupon co-founder and Glencoe resident Eric Lefkofsky still has high hopes for the Chicago-based company, despite recent setbacks, including CEO Andrew Mason being fired last week, a Chicago Tribune article stated. Lefkofsky described the e-commerce website, which offers daily deals to its subscribers, as "inches away from greatness," despite losing money recently.

Lefkoksy told the Tribune that he was looking forward to hiring a new CEO "who has experience dealing with the issues we're dealing with ... who has been there and done that." Many believed that Mason didn't have the right experience to handle the Internet company, which is unprofitable while still growing at a rapid pace.

Lefkofsky, along with co-chairman Ted Leonsis, will lead the company until a new CEO is hired.

Mason himself posted on a memo to Jottit.com explaining that he had been fired as CEO, only a day after another dismal quarter earnings were announced by the company, CNN reported.

"I've decided that I'd like to spend more time with my family. Just kidding -- I was fired today," the memo, as quoted in the CNN article read. "If you're wondering why... you haven't been paying attention."
