  • Why Go?: The Book Stall at Chestnut Court is delighted to present SNOOZAPALOOZA, an evening story time inspired by the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book.  Join us for stories, giveaways, prizes, and a fun but restful time. We ask that you wear your PJs, and bring along a pillow and your fave stuffed animal. Aimed at kids ages 3-7, this event is free and open to the public.

Men's Library Club BoOktoberfest

  • Why Go?: This is the official autumnal gathering of the Men's Library Club (MLC). The MLC is a social organization that meets regularly, fostering fellowship through our love of books. MLC events that are scheduled throughout the year are used as vehicles to support local causes and promote literacy and diversity in our community. MLC membership is open to all like-minded individuals.

Used Book Sale

  • Why Go?: Whether your calendar is electronic or good old paper, please let it know that the next Friends of the Glencoe Public Library book sale is scheduled for October 13-15. As always, the sale will feature thousands of slightly used books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, and more—at great prices. Sale hours will be Saturday, October 13, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Sunday, October 14, 1:00-5:00 p.m. (everything half price); and Monday, October 15, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon ($3/bag sale).

Great Pumpkin Day

Artist Terri Murphy Leads a Story/Activity Time at The Book Stall

  • When: Saturday, October 13, 2012, 3:00 pm
  • Where: The Book Stall at Chestnut Court, 811 Elm St, Winnetka
  • Why Go?: Let’s Go Rambling! The Book Stall at Chestnut Court is pleased to host local artist and educator Terri Murphy, reading from her new book, One Day I Went Rambling, and leading activities based on the book. Aimed at kids ages 5-8, this event is free and open to the public. Have you ever found something ordinary and made it extraordinary?  Let your imagination fly when illustrator Terri Murphy rambles into our store to read from her newly released picture book, One Day I Went Rambling.  Zane, a rambling, easy-going collector, sees magic in everything, and spends his days collecting discarded treasures to build something fantastic.  Terri will lead the kids in imaginative exercises designed to encourage them to tell, write and draw their own magical stories.

Glencoe's Gasoline Alley

  • Where: Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Ave, Glencoe
  • Why Go?: Gasoline Alley, the longest tale ever told in comics, was a sweet, often poignant, story-driven, daily comic strip created by former Glencoe resident Frank King. Members of the Glencoe Historical Society will remind you or introduce you to the extraordinary world of Walt Wallet, his foundling son Skeezix, and the cast of colorful denizens that populated Gasoline Alley. Born in the pages of The Chicago Tribune, where King was employed as an illustrator, the strip was widely syndicated. Learn why Gasoline Alley holds a unique place in the comic world and how our own community contributed to its success.

Weekend Warrior Yoga

  • Why Go?: Weekday computer use, commuting, and/or carpooling restrict the body’s range of movement, and may result in tight hips, shoulders, and possibly a misaligned spine.
