  • When: Monday, August 20, 2012, 1:00 pm
  • Where: 320 Park Ave, Glencoe
  • Why Go?: You might not expect to find a Michelin three-star restaurant in Tokyo subway station.  However, as David Gelb’s documentary, Jiro Dreams of Sushi explains, working in that unlikely location is the man who many consider the world’s greatest sushi chef.  We’re taken into the world of the enigmatic shokunin (master), his restaurant where no detail is left unexamined and to the world-famous Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo where we meet the vendors who supply Sukiyabashi Jiro (the restaurant).  “By the time this graceful film is over you understand why Japan has declared the bald, bespectacled Jiro a national treasure. Even if you've never tasted sushi, the man's singleness of purpose will inspire you.” – Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune. 81 minutes.  Rated PG.

  • Why Go?: Chicago-based debut authors, M. Molly Backes(The Princesses of Iowa) and T.M. Goeglein (Cold Fury), will discuss their books and the writing process, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of their novels. In addition, we’ll hear from several of our teen reviewers on their recommended new books, there will be lots of cool prizes and giveaways, and pizza will be served!  End the summer right: save the date for this celebration of YA literature with new and exciting writers.  This event is perfect for teen lit fans ages 12 and up. It is free and open to the public, but registration is requested—we need to know how many pizzas to order! Participant may register in the store, or call us at 847-446-8880.
