Dominick's Might Lay Off 5,600 Employees

There's no word yet on whether employees in the Northfield Dominick's would be retained if another business buys the stores.

Dominick's stores in Chicagoland, which are slated to close on Dec. 28, could lay off as many as 5,600 employees, it said in a notice filed Oct. 30 with the state, according to the Chicago Tribune

Competitor Jewel-Osco bought four of the stores, and there remains speculation whether other businesses might buy others. 

All unsold stores will close “on or about” Dec. 28, employees were told in a memo published by Crain’s Chicago Business.
